As any fashionista knows, figuring out how to dress for your body type is 95% of the battle to look good. Once you crack that code, you are sure to look ah-mazing pretty much 100% of the time. Of course, not everyone is choosing formal wear, in white, every day—so here are some ideas. Discover 5 Wedding gown styles every short girl should know about and you are sure to look amazing and glow on your wedding day!

A-Line Dress

An A-line dress tends to be fitted on top and then flare out gently from the waist to create a subtle A shape. It looks best on almost everyone. However, petite ladies should take care that the dress isn’t too poofy. Poof will ultimately drag you down and make you look shorter than you are. Also, women with large busts might not enjoy the ever popular strapless A-Line due to its lack of support.

Ball Gowns

A ball gown is a dress with a fitted bodice and a full bell-shaped floor-length skirt. It was created for formal events (i.e. balls). Generally, these dresses look best on tall ladies, so why do we mention them? Well, if you are a short woman with a large bust, chances are this type of gown won’t overwhelm your frame. Just be sure that it is altered to fit you—and that it is your favorite after trying several different styles of dress.

Ballerina Dress

This dress has a fitted bodice and a full, bell-shaped skirt that hits the mid-calf. It is less formal and very flirty. It looks great on short women with great calves and broad-shouldered women because it balances the upper and lower body. However, if you have thick ankles or calves this style might be best avoided.

Empire Waist Dress

An empire waistline starts just below the bust and gently drops or flares down to the floor. It is not a particularly full dress. It looks good on most slender body types and apple-shaped women. Try it out and check to be sure that it isn’t accentuating your belly, because the wrong cut may make you look preggers.

Mermaid

The mermaid dress is a sexy and sleek style that hugs the body to the hips and then flares out at the knee. The flare can be obvious or it can be subtle. This cut is perfect for the petite figure, especially petite ladies with an hourglass figure.

Princess

The princess dress is constructed of vertical panels of fabric and the skirt flares out gently. It is an elegant style that looks best on basically everyone. Short women should beware a skirt that is too full or it may make you look shorter. Also, it is a very girly style which may not suit everyone’s tastes.

Sheath

A Sheath dress is modern, simple, and sleek. It hugs all of your curves, down to the floor. It is classy, and can be either simple or ornate. This dress is perfect for petite brides, but may not be good for anyone who is full-figured.

Slip

The slip dress was made popular in old Hollywood-it is a slink silk or satin gown that clings to the body. It is perfect for athletic brides.

Most people think that planning a winter wedding is considered as a gamble because of the cold weather. Contrary to the common belief, in my opinion, a winter wedding can be unique and memorable if you can hold the wedding successfully. Here I will give you some useful tips on planning a successful winter wedding.

Embrace the season instead of neglecting it

Some people do not want to let the season dictates their wedding styles at first, but finally they realize that it is wise to embrace the wedding season they choose. In winter, there are many beautiful and natural ornaments, such as feather-like snowflakes, naked trees, frosted leaves and some others. A lot of people prefer to choose winter wonderland theme for their wedding parties, so you can also try that theme.

Winter-themed wedding invitations

Generally speaking, white is reminiscent of snow, so it is a traditional color for winter-themed wedding invitations. As wedding invitation cards are not sophisticated, you can totally DIY the invitations.

  • First, you need to buy some basic invitation cards.
  • Second, you can use some embellishments on the basic invitations cards.
  • Third, you can use a beautiful bow at the top of the invitation.

Remember that you need to talk to a postman to make sure your invitations are flat enough to mail. Besides, the embellishments and bows can be bought at craft stores.

Choose the right flowers for your winter wedding

Holding a winter wedding does not mean you can not have fresh flowers in your wedding. There are also many lovely and beautiful flowers in winter, such as white Narcissus, orchid, Madagascar jasmine and many others. The flowers mentioned above are all fragrant flowers which can scent the air with their fragrance. Moreover, these colorful winter flowers can make your wedding vigorous and most importantly, they are not expensive because they are in season.

Try to keep all people warm

As the weather in winter is not warm, you had better not choose strapless or thin satin wedding dresses which will make you shiver and feel cold. Instead, you can consider wearing long sleeve wedding dresses and buying bridesmaid dresses with sleeves for your bridesmaids. Besides the dresses, you can also prepare some ear warmers, gloves, scarves and snow boots for both you and your bridesmaids. Grooms can wear wool suits to keep warm. In order to make your guests feel warm and comfortable, you can serve them hot drinks, such as warm cocktails, hot chocolate, mulled wine and some others.

If you still have some questions about wedding planning, you can read my other articles. It is hoped that we all can find the best way to plan the wedding.

When you think of a destination wedding in its simplest form, you think of two people traveling to a destination away from home to get married. It can be just the couple, couple with family, or couple with family and friends. It most cases, it is quite intimate. However, it can be a much larger event, depending on the couple’s wants and expectations.

There are many factors that come into play when planning a destination wedding. The bride may have a dream of being married on a beach with a gorgeous sunset in the background or perhaps the couple sees themselves being married at a destination that is full of history and. While a destination wedding can fulfill fantasies and dreams, it’s not for everyone.

A destination wedding may be right for you if:

  • You are inviting a small group of people: Smaller groups of people simplifies the planning and ensures everyone is there at the right time and place.
  • Your guests all live in different places dispersed around the country: If your guests are going to have to travel anyway, why not make it somewhere exotic and fun! It may not be that big of a deal for them to take that extra day from work to join you for a more exotic destination.
  • You are not interested in a traditional service: Maybe you have been married before and are an encore bride. Perhaps the traditional church service does not appeal to you. There are many possibilities you can explore such as a plantation, seascape, or foreign land that may sound appealing to you.
  • The idea of combining your wedding and honeymoon is appealing: Maybe you find “no travel and no hassle” a good idea.
  • If you find yourself identifying with any of the ideas listed above you may want to consider these points as well:
  • Who do you want in attendance? Do you have friends from college or grandparents and great-grandparents who are unable to travel long distances? How you will you feel if these people are not in attendance?
  • Cost: Destination Weddings typically cost much less than the traditional wedding. This is often due to the number of attendees and number local vendors that you will employ that make things much simpler and less expensive.
  • Are you the type of person who must be in control of every detail? For people who can “go with the flow” and tend to not sweat the minor details, maybe a destination wedding is for you. Considering the local options on an island may be minimal such as flower vendors, photographers, wedding officiates, and caterers.

While destination weddings are sometimes coined as “carefree” and “easy,” the couple needs to take into consideration the factors that go into planning a destination wedding. With the help of an experienced destination wedding and romance travel expert, your special day can be unique and memorable.

If you have having a winter wedding please do not be concerned about flowers as some truly beautiful options will be in season and readily available.  You can create a truly striking display of cold-weather flowers perfect for any wedding and budget with these readily available options.  Here is a closer look at some of the timeless blooms you can add to your special winter wonderland.

Roses

A timeless classic for any occasion and any season, roses are available for a winter wedding.  You also have your choice of color from creamy wide to the bold, dramatic black-red variety.  The color selection also means a match with almost any color scheme and the lovely simplicity of the rose integrates with nearly any other flower.

Amaryllis

Red amaryllis with snowy background

The amaryllis is a genus of flowering bulbs which are widely sold in the winter months due to their ability to bloom indoors.  The color is usually white with red stripes but pink, purple, and scarlet can also be found.  The large, unique blooms are striking and their naturally occurring colors make them easy to mix with other flowers.  As the amaryllis is a symbol of the winter seasons it is a great choice to use at a cold weather wedding.

Lilies & Lilies of the Valley

Already a stunning flower by itself, the lily, and its significance, make it a natural at a wedding.  They can be found in a variety of colors from creamy white to flaming red and are not only gorgeous in bouquets but also in centerpieces or even hairpieces.  Some lilies have truly unique coloring, such as dark pink tips on white, a red-black center on an otherwise ivory petal, and even the tiger lily whose warm hues make it an ideal choice for cold weather.  Once mare the color variation makes the lily easy to blend with other flowers and an arrangement of bulb-type flows is nothing short of spectacular.

Orchids

One of the most elegant of flowers orchids are a natural at weddings.  Their aroma is just an added perk to their beauty and the colors they come in are stunning.  There is white, cream, pink, purple, even an electric blur variety.  Multicolored orchids are truly a feast for the eyes with their patterns of pink on yellow and maroon on white.  It would be a difficult task to find a bride who would not want these stunners at her wedding.

An October wedding is in the heart of fall, which means the theme must be perfectly autumnal. The first colors that may come to mind are caramel, pumpkin, or apple, but when the leaves, decor, and food are already these shades, your wedding color must be something that accents fall’s palette. We chose cranberry for this color of the month because its bright red is a bit darker and contrasts perfectly with light yellow, orange, and red fall leaves. Just imagine a branch of cranberry tied around a pumpkin stem, and you’ll see what we mean.

Dresses & Bouquets

Cranberry dresses are beautiful long or short. Fun textures like pleats or ruffles make a short or strapless dress more seasonal. Have your bridesmaids wear gold jewelry instead of silver. We love pairing these dresses with vibrant bouquets in autumn colors like amber, orange, red, or maroon. Succulents can be included to break up the colors, as seen above. You can go many different ways with your bouquet for a cranberry wedding. For instance, cranberry pairs perfectly with pale pinks and fuschia if you’re going for a more flirty and feminine theme. If you want to keep things rustic and fall-themed, then stick with autumnal colors. You can even add a sprig of cranberries in your bouquet to tie everything together. Deep purple florals with purple velvet ribbon can drastically change your bouquet into something more romantic and royal.

Decor

Gold and cranberry were meant for each other. With cranberry bouquets in gold vases, simple dishes, and gold chairs, you have all the decorations you need for a classy wedding reception. Use cranberries in your decorations for easy DIY options. You can place cranberries in a cylinder vase with water and lay a candle on top. Another idea is to fill a tall vase with cranberries and place a stalk of hay in it for more festive and seasonal decor.

Food & Beverages

Because cranberry is such a rich color, you can simply have a white cake with a cranberry-colored flower for accent. You can’t have a fall wedding without serving pies. You can display a tower of miniature apple, cranberry, pumpkin, and pecan pies or serve them as is. We also love the idea of serving a naked cake topped with cranberries. For the champagne toast drop a few frozen cranberries in each glass.

Omate Ungaro ring

Trying to find the perfect wedding ring for your beloved? Sure you can go with the traditional gold band, complete with diamonds and heart shapes. That’s traditional. Or you could give them something unique: something special. You could give your loved one a ring that will forever connect the two of you.

You know, a smart ring.

Smart rings aren’t incredibly new, and most of the time they are offered as an alternative to the bulky smartwatches flooding the market. But today Omate announced a new kind of wearable smart technology. The Ungaro ring is a stylish ring that will notify you when one, and only one, contact messages you.

Talk about true love.

The Ungaro ring was made by Omate in collaboration with Emanuel Ungaro, a fashion firm named after the famous French fashion designer. The Ungaro comes in several models and is either plated in 18K gold or silver. There are also several different gemstones including sapphire, ruby, opalite, topaz, and onyx. Due to the wide variety of choices, the cost of the Ungaro ring ranges from $500 to $2,000. That’s a pretty steep charge for anyone looking to simply add an accessory to their phone. But, for those of you looking for a ring to seal the deal, it might actually save you some money.

Tech wise, the Ungaro ring operates on Bluetooth LE, and the battery can last up to 5 days (which pretty much crushes all of its smart watch competition). The ring will vibrate any time you receive a text or phone call from your single contact. As of now, the Ungaro ring will only work with iOS devices, but it is scheduled to work with Android in early 2016. What the company needs to do, is to promote this product and market it accordingly so that as many people as possible become aware of this cool little gadget.

The Ungaro ring may seem frivolous, but it marks the beginning of a push for premium wearable technology of all shapes and sizes. Plus, as a tech nerd, I kind of wish this was around when I got married in my search for a wedding ring.

Who says technology can’t be for everyone? This is just the scratch of the surface. We’ve seen companies developing smart necklaces and earrings for consumers. This tech may be the perfect match for the family who lives in the connected home.

The beach provides you with a relaxed environment to do your wedding. For you to enjoy your big day you need to wear the right beach wedding dress.

Factors to Consider When Buying the Dress

For you to buy the right dress you need to consider a number of factors:

Material: as rule of thumb you should go for a material that is light, flowing and doesn’t wrinkle. Some of the best materials that you should consider going for are: crepe, chiffon and charmeuse.

You should also consider other fabrics such as duchesse satin, illusion nets, and batiste. You should stay away from thick, heavy materials such as brocade and velvet. The cool thing with a light material is that it allows you to be comfortable and at the same time it does well in the beach wind.

Train: the beach is not a controlled environment; therefore, you have to contend with the wind, pose near water and walk in the sand. Due to this, you should avoid a dress with a long train as the train will get caught in the sand. To have an easy time you should go for a dress with a short train. It’s also wise to go for a short wedding dress in order to pose near water and walk freely.

Popular Beach Styles

There are a number of dresses that are popular with beach weddings. These dresses include:

Empire waist: it fits closely just below the bust line and then falls in a loose column to the feet. This design creates a soft, flowing look that is ideal for the beach setting.

Sheath: also known as a column wedding dress, the sheath dress has a similar line as the empire waist, but tends to have a more structured skirt and doesn’t flow out from the bust line-it falls in a straight line from bust to toe. The best sheath dress to go with is the mini variety.

Mermaid: a mermaid dress fits closely to the body, but it flares out just below the knees. For the dress to be ideal for the beach wedding you should avoid one that is too decorated.

These are some of the best dresses that you can wear during your beach wedding. For a perfect look you should wear the right shoes. The best shoes to go with are ballet-style slippers. If you are edgy you should consider going barefoot.

The Best Honeymoon Destinations For Winter

A winter wedding can be the most elegant and beautiful of ceremonies. Winter weddings also have the advantage of standing out as your wedding is probably not one of several that your guests may have to attend during the regular spring and summer wedding season. Planning your wedding in winter also gives you a better choice of venders and often better pricing options. Winter works well for any color combination and the natural lighting of winter is your photographer’s best friend. All in all, winter weddings are a great choice for any bride and groom; however, your choices for honeymoon destinations may be limited. If you are set on a beach and sun-filled honeymoon, you will be shelling out a pretty penny to get there, but if you love winter and all its spectacular activities, you can plan a winter honeymoon that won’t break the bank. Here are the best honeymoon destinations for winter.

  1. Aspen, Colorado: Aspen, Colorado is not just about skiing, although you will get your fill of that on your romantic winter honeymoon there. You can also experience romantic candle lit dinners and spa days for two. Aspen also offers winter nature hikes, storytelling around the fire, ice skating, recreation centers and much, much more. If you and your groom love nature and outdoor activities, Aspen is the best of the best for your winter honeymoon.
  2. Reykjavik, Iceland: A nature lovers dream, Reykjavik, Iceland is a wonderfully original honeymoon destination. The city is rich in history including a city hall built to look like it is floating on a pond. Both the city and the surrounding area are full of nature and history to make your honeymoon special, and with some airlines offering rates from America as low as $169 this trip can fit into any budget.
  3. Park City, Utah: A ski lover’s paradise, Park City, Utah is a top rate winter destination for newlyweds. While autumn weddings are in full swing at the moment, and winter weddings are just around the corner, there’s something endearing about waiting for the new year to finally bloom into lush flowers and greenery again before your big day.

When the air is finally warming up and the earth is becoming greener each day, a spring wedding is almost always made memorable by being held on a lovely piece of land. The only problem? Outdoor weddings in spring have the tendency to be chilly as the day fades and the night sets in. The solution? Have a spring barn wedding.

While the spring barn wedding has swept across the wedding scene in recent years, giving the illusion of being trendy, the truth is that barn weddings are a tale as old as time. There were weddings being held in barns before the 2015 Mason Jar trend, and there will continue to be barn weddings throughout time. Like pearls or a nice men’s suit, barn weddings are timeless and elegant—it’s all about how you plan your barn wedding.

So here are a few things to keep in mind when planning a timeless and elegant spring barn wedding:

Location, location, location

As you probably already know, where you choose to have your wedding is just as important as any other detail that goes into planning a wedding. The location can make or break your big day, especially when it comes to picking a barn venue. Obviously you don’t want to go out and pick any old barn to host your wedding in. I don’t care how handy you or your groom thinks you are, you are going to want to choose a barn that is already renovated. Trust me on this one, there is no need for added renovating stress with an already stressful feat of planning a wedding.

Do some research. Explore barns in nice areas that fit the aesthetic you are going for. Keeping your wedding timeless is important, so focus less on the decorations when searching for your barn venue, and look for structural soundness and spaciousness.

Looking for a barn in the Alabama area for your spring barn wedding? The Barn at JAKlyn Manor, located in Maplesville, Alabama (pictured above), encompasses the timeless look while remaining spacious, allowing you to add your personal touches to their wedding venue. Less is more

With a classic barn structure, there is no need to over-decorate; the history of the barn and the few decorations you have will speak for themselves, creating an elegant look. So when deciding on decorations for your barn wedding, keep it simple; After all, the key to elegance is simplicity. Try to avoid too bright of colors, and stick to a select few complimentary decorations.

In the photo above, also of JAKlyn Manor in Alabama, the couple has chosen to use lanterns as aisle markers, and place just a few lights and streamers across the barn rafters. The back drop is white and modest, allowing you and your groom to be the focal point of the ceremony.

Since it is likely that the barn you hold your spring wedding in will be made of wood, it’s important to choose your wedding colors wisely. Keep in mind which colors will be both springy and go well with the grain and color of the wood that the barn is made of. You certainly don’t want your bridesmaids wearing red dresses against a red barn backdrop, nor do you want your groom’s black suit clashing with the brown panels of wood.

I recommend staying away from wedding colors that are trending that season, as they will be overused by the end of the year. Some classic spring colors that will never go out of style are pastels, blushes, lavenders, and navy blue, just to name a few.

Don’t freeze (or toast) out your guests

While you and your groom may be all toasty on your big day, it’s important to remember that your guests will get a little chilly in a barn setting while eating cake and drinking champagne in the evening. Many renovated barns won’t be heated, but it is possible to keep the place comfortable with space heaters. Strategically placed throughout the venue, space heaters are a great way to keep your spring wedding cozy, especially when cool nights are almost always a given. So whether you are renting these heaters, or the barn you have chosen as your wedding venue offers them as part of the deal, make no mistake: be prepared that your spring evening might be a chilly one.

On the other hand, some days in the spring can be abnormally hot. Unless the barn you are choosing to have your wedding in is air conditioned (which is a rare commodity in barn venues), I would be prepared to distribute hand fans to your guests, as well.

Spring is for florals

This isn’t new news, folks: Florals and springtime are just meant to be, another classic and timeless truth. But when it comes to decorating for your spring barn wedding, it’s important to remember that even flowers can be used sparingly. The whole mystique behind the barn venue is that the barn itself is a decorated and beautiful piece of your wedding that you don’t want to take away from. Nor do you want to distract from the elegance of the bridal and groom party.

When deciding where to place flowers in your barn venue, I advise to, again, keep it simple. Placing bouquets on every aisle or atop every beam is a bit excessive, and boarders on the tacky side. An easy way to spring up your barn without going overboard on the blooms is to consider sprinkling petals down the aisle. It’s a stunning display of color, and it brings your friend’s and family’s attention back to the bride and groom.

Beauty Appointments To Make 3 Months Out

To be fair, these beauty appointments are not necessary for you to look your best on your wedding day. You could wake up and wash your face and brush your teeth and your lover would still marry you just as quickly. If you don’t want to chance that your fiancé will leave you at the altar if you don’t get every hair plucked and every nip tucked, then these are the appointments for you. Here are beauty appointments to make three months out.

Hair Appointment

Scout out hair dressers that will give you the look that you want on your wedding day. Make the appointment 3 months or more giving you plenty of time to make any changes to your style that you may not like. Make arrangements with them to do your hair the day of your wedding and keep them in the loop with your changing plans.

Makeup

Do your research for a good make-up artist that will chisel your face into almost unrecognizable beauty. If you can afford the best make-up artist in town go for it. Make an appointment 3 months in advance to test drive their abilities, and decide which one is the best miracle worker for you. Work out the details and arrange for them to do your make-up on your wedding day.

Facials & Treatments

Start clearing your skin with weekly facials starting 3 months out. It will give your skin time to heal in case you get breakouts and irritation. Try some body treatments such as salt scrubs, mud baths and other skin treatments to condition your skin. Starting early will help your body to adjust to the chemicals and possible allergic reactions.

Get A Trainer

If you have a few pounds that you need to get rid of before the wedding, this is the time to get serious. Start three months out or more with a good trainer that will whip you into shape and get you on the right track to being healthier and fit. Maybe you could do this as a couple and give each other some support and strength on this ever-changing journey.

See A Dentist

Would you like to have a really white smile or fix those teeth that make you feel self-conscious? Make an appointment with your dentist to fix you up for your big day. There are so many inexpensive alternatives to having a beautiful smile these days.

How you choose to spiff up for your wedding is completely up to you. The only thing you really need is a bath and fresh breath to make the day go perfectly.
